You're From The Isle If Anybody Asks

First Awareness
Those used to this by now probably knew what it meant when they felt their magic return for a moment. For the rest, suddenly their powers were back. Just for a few minutes, but a lot could be done in a few minutes. If the person even noticed their powers were back, that is.

Of course those on the shore might have seen the hazy indistinct shape through the barrier coming closer, might have seen the moment the hole in the barrier opened. Might have seen King Ben leading people down a gangplank through the barrier with crates of supplies....

Unions, Re And Otherwise
Once the supplies were unloaded, the barrier was sealed up again. King Ben seemed to be in charge during the unloading, Once the barrier was closed again, by the green magic streaming from the Queen's finger, it was Mal who seemed to be in charge.

"Alright, listen up. We have 2 hours and the clock is ticking. I'm not FG but we're keeping to a deadline anyway. If you want to come to Auradon or know someone you want us to bring back, you have 2 hours to convince us. You and everyone else, sharing the same 2 hours. Along with anyone who has a supply request for our next visit, or updates. Those of you bringing supplies to the school, time to get cracking. Two hours passes faster than midnight at the ball."

Those Who Left
(Please TL Here for boat and Auradon Shenanigans. TY)

Those What Remain
Once those going back to Auradon had left and the barrier was back in place, it was for those who remained on the Isle to sort the supplies and figure out how to get done everything that needed to be done with the people that remained.

"Yes if you have some sort of... magical storage space normally, that would likely be inaccessible here," he said. "Though if you'll pardon my saying so, that would seem to be the least of your concerns at the moment. The barrier isn't supposed to have such a drastic effect on humans so far as I'm aware."

"Of course," he said, gesturing for them to follow him back to the school. "Anyone who tells you they've never known fear is a liar; it's something that everyone, no matter their race, must live with. The ability to rise above it, however, to stand firm in the face of it when needed, is not nearly so universal a thing. It's something I have struggled with, and continue to do so."

Foulques nodded. "I'll take you to where we've been keeping him," he said. "We thought it best to hide him away, lest any of the other so called teachers here might be inclined to finish what the explosion started."

"And not moving him would likely be far greater a risk, under the circumstances. Besides, he'll likely sustain far less dame when carried between us than he may have during his initial rescue; I didn't have the luxury of taking the time to be gentle when hauling him to relative safety."

Foulques was somewhat surprised to see a face that was familiar, despite its owner not having been to the Isle before. "It seems we meet properly at last," he said as he approached. And indeed, Ian would likely recognize him from the strange dreamworld they'd both been subjected to some time ago. The Elezen was somewhat scruffier looking, his hair a bit longer, and was rather more imposing wearing armor and a spear than he had been in the attire of a prisoner, but he was undoubtedly the same person.

"I neglected to introduce myself when we met in that strange dream world," he said once he was within conversational distance, and gave a polite nod. "I am Foulques of the Mist. And you?"

"Well we can be friends, sure, but I've already got people to take care of me," Leia said. "And I'm not staying here; I came over with everyone from Auradon cause I wanted to help."

"Anyway, it's really important that you come back to Auradon with us or else time will explode." OK, maybe Gilbert hadn't put it exactly like that, but it amounted to the same thing. "You'll probably have to talk to Ben and Mal first, but don't worry, they're nice. Even if Mal likes to act like she's all tough and grumpy."

"We're Blood, I guess... we never thought about how much we use Craft for every day," Cassidy said, trying to center herself. "But we brought stuff to help and can't access it now. And I was going to..." she trailed off and frowned a moment. Then carefully not looking at Grey, asked Gabriel "Do you have a knife?"

"Cassidy, NO!"

Cassidy took a deep breath. "If nothing else, I can at least try to help their crops."

"NO!" Grey said, standing, green eyes flashing.

They followed close. "I didn't think adults were supposed to be afraid... That when you grow up the fear goes away and you know what to do..."

Ben nodded. "Lead on. Unless he put on a lot of weight since I saw him last, I can carry him myself if you can watch my back."

"Oh!" Ian said, surprised. "Hello. I'm Ian. Doctor Ian Wright. And I guess I'll be staying here a while. Any idea where I should be setting up?"

She had been about to ask if the child actually still had parents, but the thing about time exploding confused her out of any other response.

"Time... can explode?" she asked, wide eyed. She had dreamed of time as a river that she could travel, but the idea of it exploding was something new to think about.

"Heh...", he gave the barest of rueful chuckles. "It would be a wonderful thing if it were so; I suspect that a great many worlds would be far happier for it."

"But no, growing older doesn't make one immune to fear. You learn and grow, become stronger and hopefully wiser. You gain more experience, and learn better how to deal with emotions like fear and sorrow. And what you fear changes as your life does; for example, I no longer fear thunder as I did when I was a little boy. Time has taught me that it's merely noise, and while levin storms require caution, they always pass, and the rains they bring nourish the land."

"The time will come for you too when many of the things you now fear will seem like mere trifles. But they will be replaced with new fears to challenge you. That is why it is important to learn to stand firm in the face of fear, to not act rashly and give in to panic. Our fears grow with us; so must our courage."

The barest of smirks. "I forget that you're stronger than you look,", he said, recalling now the ease with which the young man had shifted his young queen when last they met. But he nodded. "Follow me."

He headed back along the path toward the school, knowing Ben would follow. As the passed through the path that had been cut through the briars, he spoke again. "I would be remiss if I didn't mention the efforts of River Song and Sun in investigating the explosion that injured the professor," he said. "In fact, were it not for River, I would have never thought to investigate it at all." He frowned. "Our would-be assassin was clever, choosing a method that was likely to be put down to a mere slip of the hand, or the general poor quality of the available equipment."

"There's really only one building to speak of that we can access," he said. "But I'll take you there. I'm afraid there's little comfort to be had, though it's still preferable to being unsheltered. As for all this," 'this', being Ian's equipment, which he gestured to indicate, "I'd be more a hinderance than a help when it came to putting it together, but if all you need is an extra pair of hands and strong back, I can help get it to whatever room you claim as your own."

"I am familiar with Professor Song, of course. She came back to Auradon briefly. I do not believe I have met Sun, however," he said as he made a mental note to thank those two for their part in the protection of the older teacher.

'Then you're in far better company than you believe,' was his initial thought, but he didn't voice it. True though it may be, it was unlikely to be helpful. Instead, he said, "Tell me, if there was some other skill you wished to improve, how would you go about it?"

"He arrived after your last visit," Foulques said. "Luckily he's rather difficult to miss, so you'll likely encounter him while you're here." A tall, gangly mammet with a grinning sun mask for a face tended to stand out if he was anywhere nearby, after all.

"A few of the other matters I wish to discuss pertain to him, actually. But they can wait until we've taken care of the Professor."

"Once we get beyond the beach, the going should be a bit easier," he said. "The ground is still somewhat muddy, but firm enough not to pose the sort of problems sand does for such wheels."

He bent to pick up the heaviest-looking of the cases. "What do you intend to do with all this, if I might ask? You said you were a doctor, but these don't look like any healer's instruments I've ever seen."

"Uh uh, I know a trick question to make me learn something when I hear one!" Being Toriel's adopted second kid, there were a fair number of those. "You want me to say practice then you're gonna say I have to practice doing scary things and then I just wind up screaming a lot. Nuh uh."

"Ah... not that kind of doctor. I mean, I know some basic first aid of course. But I'm more a lab geek computer programmer tech guy. With admittedly amazing taste in both music and clothes. Not that I've had much chance to dabble in either since I arrived unless I brought it with me."

He gave a short huff of mingled amusement and annoyance. "Even if you saw through it, you answered your own question regardless," he said. "Proving that you knew the answer all along, you just didn't like it. Unfortunately for you, truths like that have an irritating habit of not changing to suit our preferences."

"The only way to become braver or more skilled is with work and time. There is no shortcut, no spell or potion or hidden secret. Merely gradually acquired knowledge and applied effort. But unlike some, you have at least one comfort; you need not strive for such things alone."

"You needn't take on part of everyone's tasks, you know," he said as they passed through the courtyard and headed into the school itself. Ben might notice that the halls were, for a wonder, trash-free, even if the walls- and parts of the ceiling and floor- were still covered in graffiti. "Under normal circumstances, I'm certain you have ministers and the like. And even now, those among you no doubt have a variety of skills that could be set loose on certain issues."

"I see," he said. "My apologies. In Eorzea, the term 'doctor' is used only for skilled healers. Those in positions such as your own are more often known as archons if not being referred to by their more specific titles. They're generally easy to identify, as they sport specific tattoos as a mark of their station."

The heavy case lifted, he indicated direction with a tilt of his head. "This way. There's only one way through the brambles, so you're unlikely to get lost, but take care not to walk too closely to the sides of the path, lest you catch your clothing or worse on them."
