The First Wave

The school was still swampy, but the rain had stopped a few days ago at least. The school grounds were a sopping mess.

And then, suddenly and without warning, a wave flickered all over the Island. Not water. Magic. A return of magic. Brief, but sharp. The barrier had been down for a precious minute. Two at most. Then it was back again. But something had happened.

In response, Professor Yen Sid who had been teaching out of an upper floor classroom while the basement was flooded, moved swiftly without running. He was heading away from the school and down the only cleared path and to the shore.

Reunited like this?

On the beach, the people of Auradon had rushed through the magical ramp that Mal had created into the small opening in the barrier. Once they had all their supplies on the beach the barrier closed. "Three hours," Mal said firmly. She looked towards the school. "Incoming," she warned them all as professor Yen Sid approached. Then she added to those who came with the royal pair. "If you're not back in three hours we're leaving without you. And it may be a while before we can get back."

That said, Mal went to talk to Yen Sid as Ben started helping everyone sort what they got onto the driest surfaces they could find on the beach.

"Looks like they got some weather here already..." the king mused.

Those that remain

Once the Auradon contingent was gone, those that remained once again had supplies to bring into the school and distribute. And Yen Sid seemed concerned about something that the royal pair had told him. Deeply concerned.

The view from the currently accessible strip of beach on the Isle was generally fairly monotonous; a somewhat distorted stretch of ocean and sky extending to the horizon. The occasional shape of a passing seabird and - at one point - a set of silvery shapes that could only have been a pod of dolphins were the only real things to break it up.

Not so today. Because today there was a Shape. It was difficult to make out clearly what the shape was at first, only that it was getting larger, or seemed to be as it got closer. It soon became clear that the shape was far larger than any sea bird or even a dolphin, and that was when the call went out. No one knew for sure who had been the first to yell a combination of warning an announcement, but soon enough, everyone on the Isle was aware of the situation, and most, if not all of them had come out to watch and wait to see what - if anything - would come of it.

Eventually, the shape got close enough to identify it as some sort of boat as it halted as near to the barrier as it likely could. Everything was quiet for a moment but before long, raised voices could be heard from the opposite side of the barrier. It was difficult to make out what they were saying due to a combination of the barrier, the noise of the waves, and simple distance, but there was clearly some sort of argument going on on deck. The question was what did it portend for those on the Isle?

For those of the Isle who would normally have magic... for a moment... less than a minute really... the magic was back. Not fully. It was more like a warm breeze on a cold day than it was like settling before the fire place. Just a brush of the smallest amount of magic. Most who have magic might not have even felt it, or sensed it. But for those who had, for just that moment... they had just a hint of their own power back.

And then it was gone. No warning for its arrival, no warning for when it left again. No time to prepare. No time to do anything big with it. No explanation. But for less than a minute, some characters might have felt like they could breathe properly again.

But after? Nothing. Not even a lingering scent of it on the wind....

Every now and again Doctor F remembered that this was actually a school and not a multi-roomed holding cell. The influx of new students reminded him, this time around. So he went and poked at the other teachers to remind them to do their jobs.

Well, he had to prod Lady Tremaine and Mother Gothel. Yen Sid, it seems, has been teaching all along, whenever someone wanted to come in for a lesson. Unlike the others he was accessible and available. Well, now all of them were. How long that might last, however....
