This Is All Hands On Deck

The view from the currently accessible strip of beach on the Isle was generally fairly monotonous; a somewhat distorted stretch of ocean and sky extending to the horizon. The occasional shape of a passing seabird and - at one point - a set of silvery shapes that could only have been a pod of dolphins were the only real things to break it up.

Not so today. Because today there was a Shape. It was difficult to make out clearly what the shape was at first, only that it was getting larger, or seemed to be as it got closer. It soon became clear that the shape was far larger than any sea bird or even a dolphin, and that was when the call went out. No one knew for sure who had been the first to yell a combination of warning an announcement, but soon enough, everyone on the Isle was aware of the situation, and most, if not all of them had come out to watch and wait to see what - if anything - would come of it.

Eventually, the shape got close enough to identify it as some sort of boat as it halted as near to the barrier as it likely could. Everything was quiet for a moment but before long, raised voices could be heard from the opposite side of the barrier. It was difficult to make out what they were saying due to a combination of the barrier, the noise of the waves, and simple distance, but there was clearly some sort of argument going on on deck. The question was what did it portend for those on the Isle?

"Well, it certainly doesn't seem like my husband's style," she said. "But if it is someone here to attack us, we can use this place to our advantage..."

Morgana almost rolled her eyes at the husband comment, but the latter definitely got her attention. Now she was looking at River, eyebrow raised.

"How so? This place has no magic, no power, no nothing. What advantage would we have?"

"We've gotten used to it, if they're out there, maybe they haven't. But more... We know the dangers in these waters, they don't. We know places where the thorns stick out more that we have to be cautious around, they don't. And I'm sure I'm not the only one with hiding places and hidden caches of weapons, even if those weapons are just collections of things I can reliably throw where I intend them. Are you telling me you don't think you could take someone who was new to this place if you had to?"

Hmmm, those were very good points...

"Oh, I never said I couldn't." Morgana twirled her guitar around, showing off how huge of a blunt weapon it could be. "I was just worried about the rest of you powerless little ones."

[professorsong]

"I may not have magic here... but then I never did, and I'm not exactly a lightweight myself. You should look somewhere else for powerless. Because you didn't find it here."

"I guess I'll see for myself, if that ship ever arrives here." She glanced back to the endless horizon, where the boat didn't appear to come any closer. "I could go for a good brawl. My muscles are gathering dust at this point."

[professorsong]

"Could be a fun time," River said with a smirk.

Morgana flashed a smile that was all fangs. "I'll stay out of your range if you stay out of mine." In other words, I won't hit you if you don't hit me, should ballroom brawl blitz occur.

[professorsong]

"Works for me, but if I shout down and you don't, well, duck, I can hardly be blamed."

The biggest of eyerolls. "Yeah, never heard that one before." She was going to get a lot of those "duck!" puns here, wasn't she?

[professorsong]

River chuckled. "If you thought I was going to be kind, you're looking to the wrong psychopath."

"I don't know what to expect from you. Never did, and at this rate, never will."

[professorsong]

"Good. Means I'm doing my job," she said with a wink.
