This Is All Hands On Deck

The view from the currently accessible strip of beach on the Isle was generally fairly monotonous; a somewhat distorted stretch of ocean and sky extending to the horizon. The occasional shape of a passing seabird and - at one point - a set of silvery shapes that could only have been a pod of dolphins were the only real things to break it up.

Not so today. Because today there was a Shape. It was difficult to make out clearly what the shape was at first, only that it was getting larger, or seemed to be as it got closer. It soon became clear that the shape was far larger than any sea bird or even a dolphin, and that was when the call went out. No one knew for sure who had been the first to yell a combination of warning an announcement, but soon enough, everyone on the Isle was aware of the situation, and most, if not all of them had come out to watch and wait to see what - if anything - would come of it.

Eventually, the shape got close enough to identify it as some sort of boat as it halted as near to the barrier as it likely could. Everything was quiet for a moment but before long, raised voices could be heard from the opposite side of the barrier. It was difficult to make out what they were saying due to a combination of the barrier, the noise of the waves, and simple distance, but there was clearly some sort of argument going on on deck. The question was what did it portend for those on the Isle?

"Alas, there are some people that can't be taught, no matter the teacher. And the head honcho of this place told us we're here to 'make a good impression' for the goody-goodies over there... so they might not even take us on their ship if we can't prove ourselves to them."

There was no guarantee of that, but Morgana had learned to be cynical in hopeful situations.

"So all I'm saying is... if they don't graciously take us aboard, we should take charge." In other words, steal the boat, if they wouldn't help them out.

"You think they won't be ready for that?"

"It would hardly be the first time I've been underestimated. Besides, it'd be the most fun I've had in this place since I got here." She let out a little witchy giggle that showed off her fangs. She may not be fully serious, but she may not be fully kidding either.

"Then how about I sit back and enjoy the show?"

"What, you don't want to be a pirate?" Morgana playfully teased. "I think you'd look cute with a parrot on your shoulder... and you'd rock a eye-patch, all black, with a rose motif in the center."

"Oh, I could pull it off, but I thought we were supposed to be convincing these wet blankets that we're willing to play nice?"

Morgana pretended to have a long, mournful sigh. "I guess so... A performer must be able to wear many faces, even the ridiculous ones. I'll just have to put 'boat hijacking' on the bucket list for later."

She snorted a bit. "I'm sure if we get over there, there will be lots of chances. Gossip I hear around is that place is half as good as home which makes it twice as good as this dump."

"I imagine almost anywhere would be twice as good as this place." She rolled her eyes. "At least in jail, you'd get three meals a day and a decent roof over your heads."

"I wouldn't know. They don't exactly arrest people for crimes most adults don't realize happened, after all."

Well, there was an interesting drop of backstory. "I should hope not. Orange totally isn't your color, and bars blocking your cute face would be a crime in of itself."

"Orange?" she asked, confused.

"Prison jumpsuit." She casually explained. "See, that's why we need to visit more often, so you can understand my genius wit." Which itself was another joke.

"Wow, your world really is evil to prisoners. Where I'm from jail uniforms are pale blue and white."

[lovebites_sodoi]

"Hmm, still not really my style. I'm more for dark colors - blacks, reds, eye-grabbers, you know? Honestly, whoever runs these prisons needs a lesson in good taste."

"Not my style either, but beats orange."
